Advancing Sustainability: IGBC Green Property Show Leading the Way in Hyderabad

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), a division of the CII, in collaboration with the Government of Telangana, has unveiled the inaugural IGBC Green Property Show. This pioneering event aims to educate and inspire potential buyers to invest in a greener future by selecting IGBC Certified or Pre-Certified Green Projects instead of conventional buildings.

At a press conference led by C Shekar Reddy and Ar. Srinivasa Murthy G, co-chairman of the IGBC Hyderabad Chapter, along with M Anand, deputy executive director of IGBC and other stakeholders, it was announced that the first edition of the IGBC Green Property Show will be held on July 28th, 29th, and 30th at the HITEX Exhibition Centre in Hyderabad, Telangana. The government of Telangana has joined as a partner state for this event, demonstrating its commitment to sustainability. Over the course of three days, the expo will showcase green residential properties, building products, and services, fostering connections between developers and environmentally conscious property buyers.

The show serves as a comprehensive platform for the citizens of Hyderabad, empowering them to make eco-friendly choices that not only benefit themselves but also contribute to the improvement of their surroundings and society as a whole. It also addresses long-term challenges such as resource conservation for future generations and the consequences of climate change.

Reddy emphasized the significance of the IGBC Green Property Show in Hyderabad, highlighting its role in enabling developers to exhibit their green-rated projects and showcase their commitment to sustainable buildings and the built environment. The primary objective of the event is to raise awareness among the general public about the importance of choosing green-rated projects over conventional alternatives, the extensive benefits this decision offers, and how individuals can contribute to sustainability by conserving natural resources and minimizing environmental impacts. He also acknowledged the government of Telangana for leading by example with several projects, including the Telangana Integrated Secretariat Complex, Yadadri Laxmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Hyderabad Police Commissionerate HQ and Integrated Command & Control Centre, the HUDA Annexe Building, the Commissioner of Industries Bhavan, Abids, and Hyderabad Bhavan, which have adopted IGBC Green Ratings.

Anand expressed his satisfaction with Telangana’s significant contribution to India’s green building sector, positioning it as a role model for other states. To date, more than 700 projects in Telangana, encompassing approximately 1.12 billion square feet of green building space, have aligned with IGBC’s standards.

KS Venkatagiri, executive director of CII – IGBC, highlighted the building sector’s leading role in embracing and promoting green practices and technologies, which play a crucial role in addressing ecological concerns holistically. Stakeholders have warmly embraced sustainable building practices, with India witnessing a green building footprint of over 10.27 billion square feet across more than 11,000 projects.

The announcement of the show was initially made by KT Rama Rao, Minister for IT, Industries, MA & UD, government of Telangana, during the launch of Telangana’s Cool Roof Policy.
