NBCC Chairman booked by CBI for graft in Pragati Maidan revamp, 2 held

The NBCC chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) Anoop Kumar Mittal has been booked by CBI for alleged corruption in the Rs 2,150-crore re-development project of ITPO Complex at Pragati Maidan While Mittal is on the run , CBI has arrested a government official and another person in connection with the case.

Pradeep Kumar Mishra and Akashdeep Chauhan, government official were arrested on Saturday CBI also carried out searches in Ghaziabad, Delhi and Mumbai.

However, residential and official premises of Mittal were not searched, they added.

Interestingly, the CBI kept quit and none was arrested till Vice President Shri Venkaiyah Naidu laid the foundation stone for redevelopment at Pragati Maidan on 22nd December The Union Minister for Commerce, Shri Suresh Prabhu, the Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Commerce & Industry, Shri C.R. Chaudhary and the Commerce Secretary, Ms. Rita A. Teaotia were also present during the function.

The agency has filed the FIR against Anoop Kumar Mittal, Pradeep Kumar  Mishra, Sanjay Kulkarni, Rishabh Agrawal, and Chouhan for criminal conspiracy and corruption but ensured that they are arrested only after the foundation laying ceremony.

The CBI has alleged in the FIR that a contract was awarded to a joint venture of Shapoorji Pallonji and Company Pvt. Ltd. and Shapoorji Pallonji Qatar WLL for Rs 2,149.93 crore by NBCC (India) Limited. The agency further alleges that Sanjay Kulkarni, managing director of Capacite Structures, approached a middleman, Rishabh Agrawal, “having good contacts with public servants” for bagging the sub-contract. Agrawal in turn approached Pradeep Kumar Mishra, “who is close to certain senior functionaries of NBCC Ltd”, the CBI FIR has said.

Capacite Structures Limited has a total paid-up capital of INR 3.06 cr. Surprisingly the company has a secured loan in the amount of 304.46 cr.

While the company has five directors, three of them being father and two sons, the most recently appointed director is Mukesh Sarswat, who was appointed on 17 December, 2016.

Mukesh Sarswat has the largest number of other directorships with a seat at a total of six companies. Including Pune based MPF systems Limited, a listed company.

The directors are Vinayak Kulkarni, Ajay Kulkarni, Sanjay Kulkarni , Tarun Agarwal and Mukesh Sarswat.

The longest serving director on board is Vinayak Kulkarni who was appointed on 31 March, 2006.

Capacite Structure Limited is also associated with Nagpur Metro Project and said to have cordial relationship with many of big politicians of Maharahstra.
