Pragati Maidan Convention Centre to target MICE

Pragati Maidan Convention Centre expected to open September 2019 is planning to attract and host large global events and MICE. The estimated project cost for the new Centre is Rs. 2,254 crores will have a seating capacity of 7,000 delegates

Chairman and Managing Director, India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) Shri L C Goyal shares that a comprehensive marketing strategy is being formulated to target a full house for the upcoming modern convention and exhibition centre at Pragati Maidan. And this can be achieved by targetting large global events and specially MICE events, which India has been missing upon for many years owing to infrastructural challenges.

The upcoming Pragati Maidan Convention Centre project is now underway, after delay of many years, many existing iconic halls have been brought down to make way for the proposed world class Integrated Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre with an estimated cost of Rs 2,254 crore. The Convention Center will have a seating capacity of 7,000 delegates (proposed).

Goyal also shared that the new Pragati Maidan Convention Centre will be ready and operational in two years time. And that the current period is being utilized as an opportunity to market the Centre to leading global and domestic players for their proposed events beginning September 2019. A comprehensive marketing, communication and digital strategy is in the pipeline. It required the centre may seek external help from private experts in formulating such strategy.

This year India International Trade Fair, the largest exhibition in the country, will have a relatively smaller landscape as many of the halls at Pragati Maidan are under demolition. It is also expected that the turnout at the fair will be less, as compared to previous years when on weekends the footfalls crossed 1,00,000 mark.
